Two Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) trains malfunctioned early Tuesday morning and could not be replaced in time for rush hour traffic, according to authorities.

In a tweet, MRT-3 authorities said one of line's trains needed to unload southbound passengers near its Shaw Boulevard station early Tuesday morning.

The train was taken offline, but was not replaced.

Almost an hour later, another train failed, this time on the northbound side near Santolan station.

The train was again taken offline and not replaced.

The MRT-3 administration apologized to passengers for the inconvenience.

A total of 18 trains were up and running as of 8 a.m., according to MRT-3 authorities.
