Bombardier Transportation Signal (Thailand) Ltd has been awarded one of the contracts in September 2016 for US$2.9 million. Another contract valued US$48.7 million has been given to South-Korea-Filipino consortium Busan Transportation Corp and Edison-Tramat Mercantile-TMI Corp.-Castan Corp in December 2016.

According to the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), the contract for Bombardier has been signed by Joseph Emilio Abaya and also by transportation secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, the MRT3 General Manager Roman Buenafe, and DOTC Undersecretary for Procurement and Administration Catherine Gonzales.

Under the seven-month contract, Bombardier Thailand will take charge of upgrading of the signalling system for the MRT, and will install, test and commission support of the new signalling systems and train MRT 3 personnel to further operate and maintain the service.
