Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — To ease the burden of shoppers this Christmas season, vice presidential hopeful Leni Robredo urged the government to extend the operating hours of Metro Manila's three train lines: the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2 and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).
Longer operating hours could help lessen traffic congestion as people would opt to leave their cars at home and take the trains, which are faster, the Liberal Party bet said in a statement on Friday (December 18)

"The MRT and LRT can help a lot in easing the commute of shoppers and those taking a stroll this Christmas," Robredo said in Filipino.
However, she did not mention how many hours the extension should be.
Operations of LRT Lines 1 and 2 begin at 5 a.m. It ends at 10 p.m. during weekdays for both lines, and 9:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays for LRT-1 and LRT-2, respectively.
Meanwhile, the MRT runs from 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Robredo also called on authorities to strengthen security in places frequented by people, such as malls, to avoid any untoward incident.
