Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Department of Transportation and Communications has awarded four of the seven components of the MRT's upkeep to four firms — and two of them are affiliated to current maintenance provider Autre Porte Technique Global Inc. (APT Global).
APT Global is under fire for the rail system's breakdown.
The firms were Global Epcom Services Inc., awarded the handling of the upkeep of buildings and facilities for a contract of P23.35 million, and Future Logic Corporation, awarded the maintenance of the ticketing system for a contract of P6.95 million.
On the other hand, the firm Jorgman-Korail-Erin Marty Joint Venture, which will handle the rail maintenance for a contract of P23.9 million, was almost banned in 2013 for delays in supplying rails for LRT-1.
Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares questioned the firms which were awarded contracts for the MRT's upkeep.
The DOTC, however, explained that it saw no basis to disqualify the companies.
The contracts will last for six months starting July 5. This report aired on CNN Philippines' Headline News on June 19, 2015.
